Piper’s Zoo on Instagram recently rolled over ten thousand followers.
First of all, this blows my mind. I’m a pretty introverted person, I enjoy my alone time, I have very few people in this world I consider legitimate friends, and I still get anxious in large crowds.
It’s humbling to think that 10k people find it worthwhile to follow little ole me.
However, it’s also not all that important.
Am I grateful? Yes. But probably not for the reasons you think.
Yes, I’ve stumbled upon some awesome opportunities thanks to the social media world. And I have an outlet to share my non-client/personal photos as well as some humorous or uplifting words.
But I’m most grateful for the connections I’ve gotten to make with folks I otherwise wouldn’t even know existed. I have actually met a few of my closest “real life” friends thanks to Instagram!
I love getting to connect with people who share the same passions, thoughts, feelings, and experiences despite however many miles may separate us.
It is my goal to not use social media as a way to compare my life to others, and I genuinely hope the 10k people following Piper’s Zoo are not playing the comparison game either.
Instead, let’s use social media as the powerful platform it can be: to uplift one another in an authentic way and to connect with each other over real life.
