My life is perfect.
Don’t believe me? Look at my Instagram! Such pretty photos of a beautiful lifestyle with not a worry in the world.
And geez, doesn’t it completely suck that your life is not as perfect as mine?
OH MY GOSH, STOP IT.
Stop comparing. Absolutely nobody’s life is perfect, our lives on this earth are not meant to be perfect.
And do you know what happens when we live our lives comparing them to others and feeling the jealousy that ensues? We hinder ourselves from having friendships with those we are busy comparing ourselves to and feeling jealous of. Friendships with those people whose lives are not, in fact, perfect and probably face some of the same issues we are facing in our own lives.
What if we stop comparing, stop feeling jealousy, and start using social media to garner genuine connections with others?
If I tell you that the past 6 months have been the most difficult of my life, I struggle with self-image (thank you stress-induced acne), and I feel lost without my horses, it does not make the photos on my Instagram any less pretty. But it makes me more real, easier to relate to.
Behind every social media account is a real person, living life the best they can. Whether they have ten followers or ten million followers, whether they’re in a relationship or single, whether they live in the country or the city… real people, living real, imperfect lives.
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
-Theodore Roosevelt
