I’m one of those weirdos who actually gets their photos printed. I enjoy displaying them around the house and my office as well as keeping chronological albums to look back on and help us remember what was going on in our life at any point in time.
I think (or, at least, I hope) that by now you know I am not a “snob” about pretty much anything. That’s true for my photos, also. I don’t think you need “the best” gear, I don’t think you need to print only at high-end places, I don’t think you need custom frames to enjoy sharing the photos you love.
With that in mind, here are some tips for printing your photos!
Where to Print
I think the biggest question is, “where do I go to print my photos?” And for that, I have an easy answer… Mpix! The quality is excellent and the price is not expensive (4×6 are $.29). This link gives you $5 off your first order.
When it comes to photo books, nothing beats the quality and price of Shutterfly. I make annual books as well as special event books by trip if we had an especially memorable time (*cough cough* took a lot of photos). This link gives you a free 8×8 photo book.
I tend to print a lot of canvas prints because I can display those throughout the walls in our house and not worry about matching frames. I order most of mine from Fabness when they are having sales (sign up for their e-mail list and wait for a sale running in conjunction with “free shipping”!).
Displaying Your Photos
I have photos in frames on the bookshelf pictured above, on top of the cabinet in our dining area and on top of my filing cabinets at work. The nice thing is, they’re a bit of an investment at first but then it’s pretty inexpensive to get new photos printed and rotate them out so they’re easy to keep current if that’s what you choose to do.
I personally, have had great luck with Hobby Lobby frames and I prefer 5×7 and 8×10 dimensions.
The other thing I do is I keep chronological photo albums. I use this album from Amazon, because it’s classy looking, it works well, it holds a lot of photos and it’s not expensive. I just order a new one when I fill the previous one and keep slipping photos in there.
I hope this post was helpful!
