Introducing: Charlie

Wynonna was our 5th and final mare to foal for the year. Kelly brought Wynonna home on May 29th, 2020 and on May 29th, 2021 she foaled a beautiful, strong, bay stud colt.

Wynonna is affectionately referred to as the “hippo” or “water buffalo” around here because she’s as wide as she is tall and looooooves to splash in her water trough. She’s also deceptively athletic and a bit wild since she was a range broodmare until we bought her, meaning she wasn’t used to human attention and isn’t particularly interested in it.

We thought for sure that because of the size of her milk bag she would be a mare who waxes or leaks as her body prepared to foal but that definitely was not the case. So when I woke up at 4:30 in the morning and checked the camera because I naively thought I would come back to bed after letting the dogs out, I was quite surprised to see a baby standing at Wynonna’s side.

I’m sure she planned it that way, not wanting any human interference, and that’s fine. I’m also quite pleased to report that Wynonna trusts us enough to let us handle her baby. It’s a sweet feeling.

So without further ado… introducing Charlie (Daniels)!

  • Wonderful photos. Very touching moments between momma and colt. He might end up being my favorite, I do love the bays. Thank you for sharing your animals with us. I’ll have to come visit again and see this one in person.

WELCOME TO THE BLOG

Fueled by equal parts horse hair and passion, I spend my days capturing the kinds of images that make you stop, smile and ask time to please slow down. Your story, your love, is beautiful and I can’t wait to capture it in images you will treasure for years to come. I believe in real moments and heartfelt conversations on the front porch. In the kinds of images that remind you of the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments together.
