We have been waiting on this foal since 2019 and we are so, SO tickled that he’s finally here!
Jessa foaled at approximately 5:15am on April 28th, while I was in the shower and Kelly was driving to work. He is a big, stout colt and we are so grateful that Jessa was able to foal him, her tenth and final foal, without complications.
He is the strongest/sturdiest colt we’ve experienced and had no problem standing up and balancing on his legs. What he did struggle with, however, was nursing. Luckily Kelly decided to come home after I called him to let him know that Jessa had foaled, so when Johnny still hadn’t figured out how to nurse after over three hours of trying, we decided to load them up and head to the vet.
Once we arrived at the vet and unloaded, Johnny struggled trying to nurse for a couple of minutes while Dr. Oliver found a bowl to milk Jessa into and while he was milking her, Johnny finally latched onto the other teat and started sucking! We all had a good laugh but really, it was just relief we were feeling at that point.
After we got the nursing figured out, it was smooth sailing for Jessa & Johnny.
We can’t wait to watch him grow up!
Meet Johnny Cash.
