When I first started photographing clients, I specialized in high school seniors. I had three prime lenses: 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, and a 35mm 1.4.
But when I shifted my focus to more horse photography, I knew I needed something different. Wide angle lenses (like the 35mm) distorts horses and my budget was non-existent unless I sold my 35mm and used that money to purchase a used 70-200mm 2.8… so that’s exactly what I did, over two years ago.
Although I am not a gear nerd, as my business evolved, I really felt like I was missing something. I’m not one who needs to have the latest and greatest gear, but my shortest focal length was 50mm and so I finally decided to pull the trigger on a used 16-35mm 2.8 lens.
I’ve had the 16-35mm for a little over a week now and I have done A TON of shooting with it in preparation for some upcoming projects. I can honestly say I am IN. LOVE. It’s fast to focus, it’s sharp, it’s a fun focal length and I feel like it rounds out my camera bag nicely.
I’ve used it in as many varying light conditions as have been available to me: direct sun, golden hour, open shade, and indoors. I’ve used it on stationary subjects and moving subjects.
In short: I’m very happy with my purchase!
